Join the Gang!

Is your next adventure performing at the New Theatre, Cardiff?

Gang Show is an opportunity for members of Scouts and Girlguiding across Cardiff, the Vale, and East Glamorgan to come together to put on a theatrical production. In November 2026 we will be performing at New Theatre, Cardiff.

Gang Show allows young people to get creative, experience a week of staged performances, make new friends, work towards Scouts and Girlguiding awards and badges, and also the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Being part of the Gang is awesome: take a look at what our previous cast have had to say!
Gang Show is an extremely popular activity, but unfortunately we can't fit everyone who would like to take part on the stage, so we hold auditions as a selection process.

Who is Gang Show for?

How old are participants? Cast need to be at least 9 years old by 2nd November 2026. We have an upper age limit which includes members of Scout Network, and Girlguiding Inspire, but no older.

Do cast members need to be part of Scouts or Girlguiding? Yes. Cast members need to be active in Scout or Girlguiding activities and are required to continue throughout the run up to the show, and beyond. To verify membership, those auditioning will be asked to give a contact for a Leader. If a cast member leaves Scouts or Girlguiding, they won’t be able to continue with the show.

What is the commitment?

When are rehearsals? Before the summer holidays, rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings (6:45-8:45pm). After the summer holidays, rehearsals take place on both Tuesday evenings (6:45-8:45pm) and Sunday afternoons (1:45-6pm). Rehearsal locations will be confirmed after auditions. Summer term rehearsals will be from Tuesday 16th June - Tuesday 14th July. Please note that rehearsal times can change, with plenty of notice.

How often do cast members attend rehearsals?  Cast members are expected to attend all rehearsals. If too many rehearsals are missed, it may not be possible to continue with the show. We will always make contact if we are concerned about a cast member’s level of absence.

When is the show? Gang Show 2026 will be performed from Wednesday 4th - Saturday 7th November. Cast will also be required Monday 2nd - Tuesday 3rd November for Technical and Dress Rehearsals.

All weekday rehearsals and performances take place in the evening, Saturday being a matinee (afternoon) performance.

What other dates are important? These are some other dates to be aware of:

  • Sunday 7th June (daytime) - speaking part auditions for those who pass the main audition
  • Tuesday 9th June (evening) - an alternative date for speaking part auditions for those who pass the main audition
  • Saturday 5th September (day) - whole cast induction and rehearsals
  • Sunday 25th October (during Half Term) - final Sunday rehearsal
  • Saturday 31st October (day, during Half Term) - an all-day rehearsal with the band

Do Cast Members need to attend everything? Cast members must be available for the entirety of 'show week' (including Technical and Dress rehearsals) in order to take part.

If you think other commitments will make it challenging to attend rehearsals/ performances, please consider this before submitting an audition form. Gang Show is hard work, but lots of fun!

Is there a cost? Yes. In order to cover the costs of costumes and rehearsal venues, the cast membership fee is £60.00, which is due by the first rehearsal. However, if you would prefer to pay this fee in instalments, please get in touch as soon as possible: info@cardiffgangshow.co.uk.

What's the audition process?

What happens at auditions? The session is an informal, relaxed and fun workshop of song, dance and acting. We are looking for enthusiastic cast members who use their smiles and are enjoying themselves! Song sheets/ sample scripts will be used – if those auditioning have dyslexia or a reading difficulty, please indicate on the audition booking form and we will support you as best we can.
We are asking everyone to prepare a 30 second talk about your 'favourite thing'. If the 'thing' is a physical object (please, no pets!), this may be brought to the audition.

Do those auditioning need to wear uniform to the audition? Yes. Uniform must be worn to the audition. This helps us verify membership of Scouts or Girlguiding.

What happens after auditions? All those who take part in an audition will be contacted by email, whether or not you have been successful. Those successful will receive full information about rehearsals and the show.

What happens following an unsuccessful audition? Unfortunately, we are restricted by numbers, but everyone is more than welcome to come and try again next year!
