We are looking for a team of older Explorer Scouts and Girlguiding Rangers to join the Gang Show team, learn new theatre skills, and help us put on a great show.

Apply to join our behind-the-scenes team of young people to discover new talents, work towards top Scout and Girlguiding awards, and be part of something special!

We are offering young people who will have left School Year 11 by September 2025 (and still under 18 at the time of application), the opportunity to be a part of the Cardiff Gang Show behind the scenes by volunteering in our various 'departments':

Lighting - Learn from, and work with the Lighting Designer to plan, rig and operate the lighting for the show;

Sound - Work with the Sound Team to create/source sound effects, manage and fit microphones, and install and operate a sound system;

Stage Management - The Stage Management Team manage rehearsals, create rehearsal schedule/reports, assist with the setting up the theatre and running of the show. You may also work with the team to document the direction given during rehearsals; 

Set Design & Building - Join the Stage Team to design, create and paint set pieces, as well as installing them in the theatre, and operating the pieces during the show;

Props - Be a part of the Props Department to create props lists, identify and source appropriate rehearsal and show items. The team ensures all props are in correct places for each rehearsal;

Directorial - Learn from our Directing Team to help stage the show, working with cast members on placement and performance;

Dance - Work with the Dance Team to choreograph and teach dances;

Music/Band - Play in the live band for the show, plus work with Musical Director during rehearsals to teach and rehearse musical numbers;

Costume - Work with the Costume Department with sourcing/creation of multiple costumes per cast member. During the week of the show, the team will help manage quick costume changes for the cast.

All members of the Young Team GS will have the opportunity to work/shadow in multiple departments as well as their primary role. If you are interested in more than one department please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Our expectation is for the Young Team GS is to commit to as many rehearsals as possible. All rehearsals will take place in Cardiff, with locations to be confirmed.

From 17th June - 15th July, there will be rehearsals on Tuesday evenings, 6:45-8:45pm.

From September, rehearsals will take place on Tuesday evenings 6:45-8:45pm, and Sundays 1:45-6pm.

The week of the show for 2025 is 15th-21st November at Stanwell School Penarth. The commitment for this week would be:

  • All day (9am-6pm) on 15th November for the 'Get In' (setting up the theatre);
  • All day on 16th November for technical and dress rehearsals;
  • Each evening Monday-Friday (excluding Wednesday 19th November);
  • All day/ evening on Saturday 21st November.
