My project-1

The week of Gang Show is incredibly exciting! Performing on a professional stage with your friends after months of rehearsals is hugely rewarding, but it is also hard work and tiring.

Reading all of this page (cast as well as parents, please!) will ensure 'Show Week' runs smoothly for everyone. Please take the time to understand this information, and get in touch if you have any questions.

Here's to a great week!

Arriving at the Theatre

A reminder of the New Theatre schedule:

Monday 14th November, 5:45pm: Technical Rehearsal
Tuesday 15th November, 5:45pm: Dress Rehearsal
Wednesday 16th November, 5:45pm: Opening Performance
Thursday 17th November, 5:45pm: Performance
Friday 18th November, 5:45pm: Performance
Saturday 19th November, 1pm: Matinee Performance

You need to enter the theatre via the Stage Door (Greyfriars Road) and register in the ground floor bar area.

Please make sure that you register each night – you may have to wait in the bar until your Dressing Room Steward arrives, but you will be supervised by the registration team while you wait.

The approximate time that you will be able to leave the theatre is 9:50pm. Your parents will need to wait at the Stage Door to collect you. A member of the GS Team will be on the door to ensure everyone leaves safely and with the correct parent. Saturday collection time is 5:30pm.

If you are going to be late/ urgently need to speak to a member of the team, please call Ryan: 07595 226878

Costume & Uniform

Your box and all its contents will be left at Band Call (Saturday 12th November), and will be taken to the theatre. Anything missing will be added by the Wardrobe Team before the first performance.

General costume reminder:

  • Plain black daps/ dance shoes for all cast
  • Long black socks for all cast
  • Those with long hair: extra bobbles/ hair grips
  • No one should arrive wearing stage make-up; nothing more than your usual make-up (if any) is needed.
  • Each cast member is responsible for their own costumes.

    GIRLS Costume key points:

  • Flesh-coloured bra (or crop top for younger girls)
  • Flesh-coloured tights (thicker the better to avoid any rips)
  • Plain 'short style' knickers

    BOYS Costume key points:

  • Plain, not-loose underwear

You need to ensure you bring full, correct uniform to the theatre on the Monday:

  • Correct trousers: Scout trousers or navy trousers (Guides). Only Sea Scouts can wear black trousers.
  • Scouts: Ensure all your badges are sewn on
  • Guides: Wear your Promise Badge and any other badges you have.
  • If you already have a Gang Show necker and woggle, we are expecting you to bring these. Replacement neckers cost £6, and woggles £1.
  • Dressing Rooms & Backstage

  • There will be squash, water and tissues provided for every dressing room.
  • You are allowed to bring your snacks with you, but please remember eating chocolate and dairy products isn’t advisable when you are using your voice lots.
  • You will not be allowed to eat or drink whilst you are in your costumes, apart from water.
  • No cast member will be able to leave the theatre or backstage area during the interval or anytime during the show.
  • No costumes are allowed beyond the backstage area.
  • No friends or family will be allowed backstage at any time.
  • First Aiders will be on duty throughout the week.
  • Swapping dressing rooms at any point during the week is not possible. You will be told your dressing room when you arrive at the theatre on the Monday.
  • When not on stage, you will be expected to stay in your own dressing room!
  • Personal Items

  • If you want to bring a mobile phone or any other gadget, that’s fine. However, anything you bring in will be your own responsibility.
  • Only chargers, hair straighteners, or any other electrical equipment which have been PAT tested are allowed to be used.
  • Jewellery and watches are not allowed on stage.
  • Dressing Room Stewards are there to help, but not to pick up after cast members. Costumes and litter are personal responsibility - we have high standards of Scouts and Guides!
  • Theatre Safety

  • Safety on stage is the priority. A professional stage has lots of moving parts (including from above) which increases the risk of injury.
  • Following instructions from either the Gang Show stage team or New Theatre staff is vital to ensure everyone is safe whilst on stage.
  • If a member of the stage team instructs you not to go on stage or to move somewhere, this is not to spoil the show, this is to keep you safe. These instructions are to be respected.
  • Break a Leg!

Any 'Break a Leg' tokens (cards etc) for cast members, should be delivered to the stage door. Items need to be labelled with the cast member’s full name, and where possible the dressing room number.

Parents/ Scout Groups/ Guide Units can also wish their young people good luck for Opening Night via Twitter - @CardiffGangShow

    Finally...

We hope you have a fantastic show this year, and well done for all the hard work you have put into the show so far!

    Finally, the most important note:
SMILE and enjoy Gang Show 2022!
